Not at all. To use my services, you simply need to want a ceremony that adheres to humanist values. In general, this means a ceremony with no religious content or any references to a deity or the supernatural and that reflects equal rights between the partners.

Most often, couples contact me by email to ask my availability and to learn more about my services. We typically have a first meeting for me to talk about what I offer and for you to ask questions to determine if I am right for your event. Should you wish to book with me, we sign a contract and you secure my services with 50% payment, with the balance due by the wedding date. 

I offer couples a sample draft wedding text and they have the option to use it as it is, or to modify it themselves or ask me to revise it for them. I identify the few elements required for it to be legal and from there, you/we/I build a text that reflects the kind of ceremony you want to have. You have the option to have a text that sounds traditional, or that has some personalization, or it could be something new of your own creation. 

I wear modest dress but I do not wear clerical or judicial robes of any kind. I will be dressed in a business fashion, most often in a plain, black dress. Note that I tend to change my hair colour and it may be blue or green but when that is the case, I braid or pin it back to avoid drawing attention.
